Beyond his musical career, Riky Rick’s personal life was marked by significant milestones and challenges. In early 2010, he met his wife Bianca Naidoo, and they later married in 2013. Together, they welcomed their first child, Maik Daniel, in the following year.

In a 2020 interview with rapper Yanga Chief, he revealed his past battles with alcohol and drug addiction and the toll it took on his mental health. Despite these challenges, Riky Rick chose the path of sobriety and sought to overcome his difficulties.

Life and career

His journey in the music industry began during a recording studio session with Bongani Fassie, where he found inspiration to create his own music. His first single, “Barbershop,” featuring Da L.E.S, marked the beginning of his career.

In 2014, his single “Fok Julle Naaiers (Nafukwa)” won an MTV Africa Music Award for Video of the Year. The following year, on April 3, 2015, Riky Rick released his debut studio album titled “Family Values,” which received positive reviews from critics. The album, featuring collaborations with artists like Cassper Nyovest and Okmalumkoolkat, achieved platinum status in South Africa.

Throughout his career, Riky Rick continued to release successful singles, such as “Sondela” and “Boss Zonke,” which became chart-toppers in South Africa. His track “Amantombazane” led to a remix featuring several prominent South African artists, earning nominations at the South African Music Awards.

In June 2016, he released the single “Sidlukotini,” showcasing his passion for fashion. The song earned him Best Hit Single at the 2016 Metro FM Music Awards. Subsequently, he parted ways with his record label and released the Scooby Snacks EP, followed by another EP titled “Stay Shining.”

In November 2018, Riky Rick launched his own music festival called “Cotton Fest,” emphasizing inclusivity and community spirit. His dedication to uplifting fellow musicians and creating spaces for artistic expression reflected his commitment to the South African music scene.

Despite his success, Riky Rick struggled with personal challenges, including battles with addiction and mental health issues. Tragically, he passed away on February 23, 2022, leaving behind a legacy of groundbreaking music and a commitment to empowering others in the industry.

Death

Tragically, Riky Rick’s life was cut short on February 23, 2022, in Johannesburg, at the age of 34. His death was attributed to suicide by hanging, following a prolonged struggle with depression. His passing deeply impacted the South African music community, prompting reflection on the importance of mental health awareness and support within the industry.
