Msaki, born Asanda Lusaseni Mvana on December 31, 1988, is a talented South African composer, singer, and songwriter who has left an indelible mark on the music scene. Hailing from East London, her journey into the world of music began at a young age, thanks to the influence of her DJ father and music composer grandmother. As a child, she immersed herself in musical activities, setting the stage for her remarkable career in the industry.

During her college years, at just 20 years old, Msaki joined an alternative rock band, marking the beginning of her musical odyssey. She later became a guitarist and lead vocalist for various musical groups, including the electro-experimental band Johnny Cradle and the duo Kate and I. Her musical pursuits led her to attend a music school in North Carolina, USA, in 2012, further honing her craft and expanding her horizons.

Career

In 2013, Msaki established her own record label, One Shushu Day Artistry, and released her debut Extended Play (EP) titled “Nal’ithemba,” showcasing her talent as both a performer and a producer. The EP garnered attention and laid the foundation for her subsequent success in the industry.

Her breakthrough came with the release of her debut solo studio album, “Zaneliza: How The Water Moves,” in 2016. The album received critical acclaim, earning her accolades such as the Gold Award First Place at the Cape Town Fringe and nominations at prestigious award ceremonies like the South African Music Awards.
