Early Life

Raised in the vibrant township of Soweto by his single mother, Mdolomba’s childhood was marked by both challenges and aspirations. Despite facing hardships, including a brief relocation to the Eastern Cape, he found solace in music. However, his struggle with dyslexia and turbulent teenage years led him down a tumultuous path, marked by involvement in crime and drug use.

Mdolomba’s life took a pivotal turn when he discovered his passion for music during his time at a youth detention center. Inspired by the communal singing of his fellow inmates, he found solace in the raw power of acappella music, laying the groundwork for his future endeavors. Upon his release, Mdolomba immersed himself in the world of music, eventually co-founding the acclaimed acappella group, The Soil. Their innovative approach to music, rooted in bare vocals and authentic storytelling, garnered widespread acclaim and laid the foundation for Mdolomba’s musical legacy.

Solo Career

Following his departure from The Soil, Mdolomba embarked on a solo journey, exploring diverse musical genres and styles. His debut album, “This N That Without Tempo” (2010), showcased his versatility as an artist, blending a capella and soul influences. However, it was his sophomore effort, “Isphithiphithi” (2019), that catapulted him to new heights of success. Fusing elements of Afro-pop and R&B, the album received platinum certification and solidified Mdolomba’s status as a musical trailblazer.

Mdolomba’s contribution to the South African music scene has not gone unnoticed. His collaboration with Sun-El Musician on the hit single “Akanamali” earned him widespread acclaim and multiple awards, including the prestigious South African Music Award for Best Collaboration. Furthermore, his solo endeavors have garnered critical acclaim, with “Isphithiphithi” earning him the title of Best Afro Pop Album at the South African Music Awards.

As Mdolomba continues to captivate audiences with his soul-stirring melodies, he remains committed to pushing musical boundaries and inspiring future generations.
